Code of Conduct
As The GentleFolk, we are committed to creating community events that are safe and caring spaces for all who participate. To achieve this, we require everyone to be excellent to each other. Unfortunately, even in a community such as this we need rules and boundaries to remind each other how to nurture a space that is safe and comfortable. These are the tenets we expect all of our members to understand and live by to help the community reach its full potential.
First, and most importantly, respect. Respect everyone and every-thing. Creating a space dripping with mutual respect will help forge a community that is comfortable for all regardless of gender, sexuality, abilities, age, culture, race, appearance, etc. To show disrespect or to harass anyone for any reason is not tolerated in The GentleFolk community. Therefore, we hold a zero-tolerance policy for any behavior, physical or verbal, that may be received as harassment, hostility, bullying, violence, or aggression.
The GentleFolk are committed to taking honest, firm, and concise action against any individuals who display unwanted behaviors or actions. To maintain a community that is safe for everyone, we hold the right to remove individuals from our events and social media platforms. All concerns will be assessed individually and acted on in what we see as being the best for the safety of our community.
The GentleFolk are committed to building a community that upholds values of love and restorative justice. As appropriate, we will conduct our assessments in a manner that will facilitate conflict resolution. This means that conflict, when appropriate, will be dealt with in a way that will allow all parties to continue partying. However, we will not take the place of the law or legal authority if a situation warrants this extreme measure.
The GentleFolk Administration team can be reached at info@thegentlefolk.com or through any volunteer or hired security member at our in-person events. We strongly encourage community members to bring any physical or emotional safety concerns for any community member, big or small, to us as soon as possible.
For your reading pleasure we have added a few examples of unacceptable behaviors. They include but are not limited to:
“Jokes” that are racist, sexist, transphobic, homophobic, ableist, fatphobic, or just plain mean
Conversations, debates, or topic discussions that cross a line to become hurtful, harmful, or damaging to others
Sexual harassment of any form
Anger or aggression that causes fear or anxiety to other individuals
Persistent behavior causing the discomfort of another individual physically or emotionally
